GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Certified Nursing Assistant assists the licensed nursing staff by performing routine nursing duties and activities of daily living.

Essential Job Duties:
1. Assists residents with dressing, grooming, eating, bathing, positioning, turning, toileting and exercising.
2. Gives treatments, performs tests, carries out procedures and collects specimens as instructed.
3. Reports and records observations and results of treatments, tests, procedures and specimens when indicated.
4. Transfers, transports and escorts residents as needed.
5. Answers signal lights promptly.
6. Changes bed linens, makes beds and keeps rooms clean and orderly.
7. Report to nurse on duty all unusual behavior of resident (changing of status).
   Other Duties:
1. Maintains safe and sanitary work stations and equipment.
2. Encourages independence, attendance at activities, restorative programs and rehabilitation.
3. Attends in-service training and education session, as assigned.
4. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
5. Come to work in a clean, neat uniform and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance. 
6. Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality, comply with attendance policy. 
7. Assume accountability for data contained in the employee handbook.
8. Maintain confidentiality of resident and community information.
9. Assist new employees in following established community policies and procedures.
10. Complete assignments timely, completely and accurately.
11. Observe all community policies and procedures.
12. Observe and abide by all regulations to ensure that personal health information is protected
during its collection, use, disclosure, storage, and destruction within the community; and to ensure only the minimum necessary information is known to function in this position.
13. Accept assigned duties, instructions or correction in a cooperative manner, voicing concerns or
disagreement in a professional manner through established chain of authority.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Successful completion of a State approved nursing assistant training program.  Prior geriatric nursing aide experience is preferred.  Registration with State of Georgia registry required.
2. Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic.  Ability to document care given.
3. CPR and First Aid required or obtained within 60 days of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Must be able to stoop, bend, stretch, squat, push, pull, stand, and walk for up to 90% of the work day.  May be subjected to offensive odors and combative behavior.  
2. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting; may be exposed to blood and body fluids which may contain HIV and/or HBV; must be able to transport residents via wheelchair, gerichair or shower chair as directed by the plan of care. 
3. Must be able to transfer, lift, turn and position a resident safely as directed by the plan of care.   Will always use gait belt, proper transfer techniques and/or assistance by others as well as use mechanical lifts according to facility procedures.
