Quality Assurance Accountant

Responsible for financial oversight of communities as assigned, with emphasis on policies and procedures, best practices and internal controls. Analyst will partner with community accounting staff and operations leadership to ensure timely and accurate audits and monthly BlackLine reconciliations.  Analyst must be capable of managing and prioritizing individual workload to ensure delivery of appropriate information regarding clients’ needs, issues, recommendations and opportunities by relevant date.

What You Need To Know

  • Provides external audit support to Investment and Managed communities
    • Assists with the audit planning, preparation, review and response to auditor’s internal control questions and recommendations.  Works closely with Rental Finance and Life Plan Accounting & Financial Reporting teams on audit requests and issues.
    • Prepares audit report for Investment communities following approved guidelines and standards.
    • Reviews audit adjustments, audit report and management letters prior to issuance.  Provides response to auditors on management letter issues.  Works with community on plan to implement changes.
  • Completes quarterly tax estimates and year-end schedules for Investment communities following approved guidelines and standards.
  • Provides support and feedback to communities on monthly BlackLine reconciliations.
  • Supports operations to aid in business decisions related to audit, quality control, and best practices of assigned communities
    • Oversight in community reconciliations, processes and internal controls to ensure timely and accurate reporting
    • Researches and evaluates accounting implications of unusual transactions, as needed
    • Performs operational audit of on-site accounting functions to ensure proper internal controls and procedures are in place; recommends improvements as needed
    • Completes development accounting tasks for Investment communities:
      • Prepare journal entries
      • Complete reconciliations and supporting schedules for project costs
      • Review costs incurred against standards and policies for accurate classification
      • Capitalization of project costs
    • Provides support with development accounting questions for our Managed communities
  • Contributes as an active member to the Audit & Quality Assurance team
    • Performs as a department team member by assisting co-workers with overloads as time permits, training new co-workers, and contributing to team projects
    • Trains LCS and community employees on Audit & Quality Assurance tools
    • Assists with the design, development, and roll-out of new or enhanced policies, procedures or best practices
    • Updates and/or creates models and reporting tools
    • Provides feedback to community leadership regarding the status of the on-site accounting staff
    • Assists community leadership with preparing presentations to Board and Owners, as requested
    • Presents at conferences and trainings
  • Completes special projects, as requested or assigned

What We Are Looking For

  • Four year degree in accounting/finance and minimum two years of related experience. 
  • Familiarity with Senior Living industry preferred.

  • Flexible and able to handle changing priorities and interruptions
  • Ability to interact with a wide range of people including field personnel, auditors, and all levels of LCS personnel
  • Must possess analytical and problem-solving skills necessary to solve accounting problems of medium difficulty
  • Working knowledge of accounting systems (Accounts Payable, Payroll, Billing, General Ledger)
  • Proficient with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of customer service principles, and the ability to apply them.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Use of proper grammar, content, and identified standards/format.
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities, prioritize work schedules, and complete tasks by desired due dates.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with willingness to work additional hours as needed to meet organizational deadlines.
